Bigger files take longer — your CPU does the work, privately.
Discord’s upload limits in 2026
On a free Discord account the per-file upload limit is 10 MB. Discord Nitro Basic raises it to 50 MB, and full Nitro to 500 MB — but you don’t need to pay to share a normal clip. Many servers also still expect the classic 8 MB, so this tool offers both targets.
Boosted servers can have a higher limit (up to 100 MB at the top boost level), but that applies to everyone posting in that specific server — for DMs and most servers, plan for 10 MB.
How to get your clip under the limit
Pick the “Discord” preset (10 MB) or “Discord 8 MB” for maximum compatibility, drop your video, and download the result. For long gameplay clips, trimming to the highlight first gets you far better quality at the same size.
Screen recordings and gameplay compress especially well because much of the frame is static — you’ll usually keep crisp quality even at 8–10 MB for clips under a minute.
Frequently asked questions
What is Discord’s file size limit?
Free accounts can upload files up to 10 MB. Nitro Basic raises this to 50 MB and Nitro to 500 MB. Some boosted servers allow more for posts within that server.
How do I send a video over 8 MB on Discord without Nitro?
Compress it first. Use the 8 MB or 10 MB preset above — your video is shrunk in your browser and you can then upload the smaller file directly to Discord. No Nitro needed.
Will the quality be bad at 10 MB?
For short clips and screen/gameplay recordings, quality stays good because the bitrate is spread over fewer seconds. For long clips, trim to the best moment first for sharper results at the same size.
Is my clip uploaded anywhere?
No. Compression runs entirely in your browser. Your video never leaves your device — you can even go offline after the page loads.
